Dear Sisters,
Congratulations on another summer well-spent! Much of June and July were filled with training and professional development activity related to DKG. Close to 80 Colorado Members attended a meaning-filled Leadership Conference at the wonderful Franciscan Retreat Center in CO Springs. In July, 17 Sisters and family members ventured to Nashville for the DKG International Convention. During the Convention week, many friends were made, renewed, and celebrated. Most attendees spent evenings trying all the delights of Music City. Wednesday evening, 13 of us had supper together. It was a special time branded in my heart and mind forever. Those of you who often attend and were not able to this year were sorely missed. Rick and I came home on Sunday evening and I was on a plane for Austin less then a week later. The Leadership Management Seminar, a wonderful International leadership training gift from the Society, was amazing! I hope to share wonderful news about that experience at the Fall meeting. I arrived home from Austin to meet emails and phone calls from my beloved CSU-Pueblo. I am currently in my 3rd week of work and the routine for teaching will begin on Monday. PHEW. It has been a busy one, but how fortunate we all are that we belong to a professional organization that offers so many meaningful and well-planned opportunities.
Now for the next journey in the 2016-2018 Chapter Biennium. I am trusting that each chapter has planned and started implementing exciting Fall 2016 events for their chapter. I'm looking forward to hearing how you are working to connect with schools and your community. The key to a vibrant and healthy chapter is meaningful and engaging projects and new member mentoring. Don't forget to bring your chapter members to the Saturday, October 15th Executive Board Meeting at the Denver Marriott South at Park Meadows! The meeting is pertinent to Society Business and for bonding with and encouraging Chapter Leaders.
Have a wonderful Fall. For those of you who are working and volunteering in Colorado Schools, you are changing the world. Thank you for your service and sacrifices. We are changing lives, one person at a time<3
See You at the 2016 Colorado State Leadership Conference!

Dear Sisters,
Most long-time members know how important our State and International Meetings are to personal and professional growth (Society's Mission). In order to be helpful, those meetings are at routine times so that members will pencil them in months and sometimes year's ahead. That way, we can politely and kindly say to our work and loved ones, "I would love to attend but that is the week of....". This is certainly true of so many of you and I want to thank you ahead of time for committing to our June 10-12, You are the STAR in the DKG Constellation Event ! I am so looking forward to learning and meeting with Colorado members.
There are approximately 70 Sisters coming to Colorado Springs next week. Besides the motivation of personal and professional growth, what draws you to these meetings? I hope that your answer is not, "I have to be there!" If you are attending to learn about your office, what, specifically, are your needs? If you are coming to present, what are your goals? If you are coming to meet old and new friends from across the State, how can you expand your relationships?
Whatever your reason for attending, set personal and professional goals and do not forget to look forward to the following:
1) great fun and laughter!
2) great food!
3) beautiful views and peaceful walks on the retreat grounds!
4) cheering your Sisters on as they present and learn!
5) leaving with many good ideas for a successful Biennium!
6) learning more about how you can serve in new ways!
7) meeting Sandra Bull, our International Representative!
What are your reasons for coming? Leave your comments below:
Also, reminder--Nashville in 38 days!!!! Whoo Whoo!

DKG and Purpose 1: Uniting Women Educators of the World in a Genuine Spiritual Fellowship
5/3/2016
Dear Sisters,
This coming week means a very special weekend for me. I am the mom of two wonderful, wonderful daughters. It is so special to celebrate them as amazing Mothers and daughters! My weekend however, will mean much more. Sue Denny, her kind husband, and I are traveling across the state to Grand Junction so that I can visit two chapters: XI and Alpha MU. Chapter visits are a highlight of my duties as State President. There are over 600 State Members and I have the privilege of meeting and visiting with a few if I rely only on our various State meetings. It is such a joy to watch chapter members greeting each other! So many hugs, thoughtful comments, acts of caring, and familial laughter! It is so meaningful to watch chapter members plan ways to support members and practicing teachers in need. Purpose 1, as stated above in red, reminds us of the significance of genuine spiritual fellowship. This Purpose is a priority and is arranged as Number 1 in the list of 7. This genuine spiritual friendship, like no other in our lives, knits us together in such a special pattern of caring, love, and hope for the future in the Society! All of our members are educators in some form or another. We understand the joys, challenges, and triumphs of the profession.
Also, as educated women and life-long learners, we have a common bond through leadership building. Although our organization offers many different opportunities for service at all three levels of membership, instead of focusing on how to win a race to the top, our members place a higher value on their spiritual fellowship and friendships.Take some time this next few weeks to set some leadership goals. How can you help a chapter member find a deeper leadership experience in your chapter, at the state level, or even at the International level? Even though we have our differences, let's support those around us by sharing the values and Purposes of the Society. How can you make your Sisters look good in and to the world?!!! In the meantime, send the leaders in your chapter a card of thanks for all of the things that they have accomplished for the chapter this last Biennium. In genuine spiritual fellowship, this summer we will begin a new Biennium, of chapter leaders--give your new chapter leadership, or those that are serving again, as much encouragement and help as you possibly can. And, Happy, happy Mother's Day to all of you! Every teacher has contributed so much to the children in their lives! God bless you all<3

New Beginnings

Dear Sisters,
We are having a beautiful snow today. I love looking out into my backyard. The trees look so fresh and new with a layer of snow highlighting their beauty. Here I am sipping my tea and considering how I can best improve my service in 2016.
Here are a few things that have come to mind during my tea break:
1) Talk to more members about their ideas on sustaining an energetic membership. It is through collaboration and creativity that we thrive as an organization. You may be hearing from me soon!
2) Make purposeful efforts to identify the "leaderful" skills in members and encourage them to keep up the good work--how is our organization different than others? We are distinctive because of our efforts to grow as leaders. You were once identified as a leader; where are you now?
3) Visit the Colorado State and International website at least three time a week.
Okay, Sue. You have made the commitment--now go for it! What are your DKG goals for 2016?
September 10 Thoughts...

Dear Colorado Sisters:
I am so amazed by the Leadership in this state. This week alone, I have spoken to or heard from several Colorado Sisters as we prepare for the October 17 Board Meeting--Lilly, Cynthia, Kathy, Beth, Penny, Karen, etc. You amaze me, Ladies! What energy. How creative. How capable. How supportive and open to professional and personal growth. How willing to put your busy lives aside in order to improve and sustain our Society! I feel truly blessed to be apart of the Colorado DKG Experience.
Secondly, thank you Dr. Vangie Sena, for coming to Pueblo last night to present the life of Maria Josefa--third wife of Kit Carson. Vangie, your hard work as a historian and story teller will ensure that Southern Colorado does not forget the contributions that women in Colorado have made. Vangie, you have taken your personal interests and used them to connect to the communities that you love.
Thirdly, thank you and hugs to Farabe and to all of the contributors of this most recent Omega Peak's Edition. The publication is very informing and attractive. You have used your work to further brand our state organization.
What are you most thankful for today?
